From 18/07/2006 until 31/07/2009
Researcher at CNR – I.S.T.I. Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell’Informazione “A. Faedo”
I conducted research on data access, management, and analysis in the context of distributed infrastructures. In particular, GRID technology was exploited to store and process large amount of data. The activity was part of EC funded projects, i.e. DILIGENT first and D4Science then.
I worked at these projects as researcher at the laboratory NeMIS of the ISTI Institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) in Pisa, in collaboration with European universities and research centers. These projects have led to the creation of the open source gCube System, a large framework for the management of data in Virtual Research Environments.
In the context of the DILIGENT project, I coordinated the development of Web User Interfaces by selecting the Google Web Toolkit (GWT) that was adopted by all teams of the consortium. Moreover, I contributed to the development by realizing several UI components. GWT is very much similar to Swing in its usage of Widgets, Panels and the EventListeners it provides.
During the D4Science project, I worked on the design and implementation of the Software Repository. It was designed to operate with a continuous integration build system, to perform software validation and versioning, and to support dynamic software deployment. Moreover, I also delivered a software component to collect information from the EGEE Grid infrastructure Information System (BDII) and to publish them into the D4Science information system. This was required to let the D4Science services to discover and exploit the EGEE services. The latter activity was performed in collaboration with CERN and therefore it was partially conducted at CERN.
